AAN 2024 | Holistic approaches to FND treatment

Sarah Lidstone, MD, PhD, from Toronto Western Hospital and the University of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, discusses her opinion on the treatment of neurological illnesses such as functional neurological disorder (FND), advocating for a patient-centered, holistic approach. In FND treatment, where Dr Lidstone explains the goal is often a reduction in symptoms, learning to manage them through therapy is vital. For example, strategies can be learned to recognize the triggers of functional seizures before they begin, and when utilized often enough can prevent their onset, achieving remission from symptoms. This interview took place at the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) Annual Meeting 2024 in Denver, CO.
