IEC 2021 | An overview of epileptogenicity after stroke

Eugen Trinka, MD, Paracelsus Medical University Salzburg, Salzburg, Austria, discusses epileptogenesis, the process that takes place between changes occur in the brain after an injury, insult or genetic programing and the occurrence of seizures. Prof. Trinka explains that to prevent epilepsy it is crucial to target epileptogenesis. Stroke is the most common cause of disability in elderly and tightly associated with epilepsy. Therefore, it is clinically relevant to investigate and tackle epileptogenicity following a stroke. This interview took place during the 34th International Epilepsy Congress, 2021.
