Christina Szperka, MD, FAHS, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Philadelphia, PA, discusses studies investigating disparities in the care of children with headache. Only a small proportion of patients with disability from migraine receive specialist care. One study looked into access to nerve block as a therapeutic procedure for headache in pediatric patients, identifying disparities across race, ethnicity, and Social Vulnerability Index. Dr Szperka explains that the end goal of these studies is to ensure that the right therapy is targeted to the right child at the right place and time, and to identify factors hindering this. This interview took place at the American Headache Society (AHS) Annual Meeting 2024 in San Diego, CA.
