AHS 2023 | Cerebral function changes in migraine: implications

Chia-Chun Chiang, MD, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN, discusses the implications of a recent study on cerebral function in migraine. The study provided evidence that cerebral function changes begin in the prodrome phase and become more severe during the migraine phase, highlighting the importance of headache therapies that address these changes and target both phases. Evidence also showed a difference between the severity of non-migraine and migraine headaches, with the latter being more severe. This area of research has previously been understudied, but Dr. Chiang hopes to bring awareness to these differences and highlight the need for treatments that take this into account. This interview took place at the American Headache Society 2023 meeting in Austin, TX.
