AAN 2023 | Sequencing new migraine therapies & lifestyle modifications

Nina Yakovlevna Riggins, MD, FAAN, University of California, San Francisco, CA, discusses the importance of having options when treating migraine patients with multiple conditions. If a medication can be used to treat both conditions, for example, migraine and hypertension, it can be beneficial to try it as a first line of treatment. However, if a patient cannot tolerate a particular medication, the clinician should document it and explain why it cannot be used. Notably, a number of resources are available through the American Academy of Neurology to support decision-making. The impact of lifestyle modifications, such as exercise, sleep, diet, and hydration, should also be considered in migraine management. This interview took place at the American Academy of Neurology Annual Meeting 2023 in Boston, MA.
