Matej Skorvanek, MD, PhD, Pavol Jozef Šafárik University, Košice, Slovakia, explores the shift in our understanding of Parkinson’s disease (PD) towards a biological classification of the condition. Several publications have recent emerged, aiming to present this new biological definition and classify PD into subtypes. A particularly promising recent advancement is the development of blood-based alpha-synuclein seed amplification assays, which could revolutionize the diagnostic process and lead to a more precise understanding of this complex condition. This interview took place at the European Academy of Neurology (EAN) 2023 Congress in Budapest, Hungary.
