AAN 2021 | Impact of sex and race on the migraine patient’s journey

Robert Cowan, MD, FAAN, Stanford University School of Medicine, Stanford, CA, discusses a study understanding the impact of sex and race on the migraine patient’s journey in the US. Findings show that subgroup disparities observed in the general US population exist and are exaggerated in the migraine community. The disparities were both at the diagnosis and treatment level. Providers in migraine care should acknowledge and address these disparities as well as consider the implications of treatment and diagnostic decisions when treating migraine patients. This interview took place during the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) 2021 Annual Meeting.
