Acute Ischemic Stroke Stroke

Joanna M Wardlaw, CBE, MD, FCRP, FRSE, FMedSci, University of Edinburgh, Edinburgh, Scotland, UK, discusses recent advancements in cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD) and vascular dementia. Genetics has been a strong focus, with several studies highlighting the involvement of multiple genes. Prof. Wardlaw also discusses the PRODEMOS study, which investigated the value of an interactive app that facilitates coach-supported self-management of seven dementia/stroke risk factors. Compared to a non-interactive app with no remote coach access, the PRODEMOS coach-supported mobile health platform resulted in a greater change in cardiovascular risk factors, aging, and incidence of dementia (CAIDE) risk score from baseline to 12-18 months. This interview took place at the 10th European Stroke Organisation Conference (ESOC) 2024 in Basel, Switzerland.
