Sleep Europe 2024 | Managing augmentation in RLS: terminating dopaminergic treatment or combining with other agents

Ambra Stefani, MD, PhD, Medical University of Innsbruck, Innsbruck, Austria, discusses strategies to manage augmentation in restless legs syndrome (RLS), emphasizing the importance of an individualized approach. She suggests a “cold turkey” method where dopaminergic treatment is terminated altogether, although she highlights that there are challenges with this. Dr Stefani suggests alternative options like slowly reducing dopamine agonists while introducing treatments such as alpha-2-delta ligands. This interview took place at the Sleep Europe 2024 congress in Seville, Spain.
