EAN 2021 | Epilepsy highlights at EAN 2021

Eugen Trinka, MD, Paracelsus Medical University Salzburg, Salzburg, Austria, discusses some of the key developments in the epilepsy field discussed at the EAN 2021 annual meeting. New scores that can be used to better predict prognosis have been developed in several fields. For example, a novel scoring system for the prediction of drug resistance in post-stroke epilepsy was presented at the meeting. In addition, data on perfusion imaging in status epilepticus and the latest findings with cenobamate in resistant focal epilepsy were also shared. Prof. Trinka also highlights preliminary work using a sub-scalp device for ultra-long term seizure monitoring. Early data has shown the device can capture high-quality EEG recordings continuously and may enable seizure forecasting. This interview took place during the European Academy of Neurology 2021 congress.
