ESOC 2024 | Assessing the benefit of acute carotid stenting in tandem lesions

Fabiano Cavalcante, MD, PhD Candidate, Amsterdam UMC, Amsterdam, Netherlands, discusses how observational data indicates that acute stenting can lead to better outcomes in patients with carotid tandem lesions, though this data may be impacted by confounding by indication bias. He highlights that in their study, baseline differences between treated and non-treated groups were minimal, with stroke etiology being a key influence on treatment decisions. Ongoing trials aim to further validate the value of acute stenting during thrombectomy for these patients. This interview took place at the 10th European Stroke Organisation Conference (ESOC) 2024 in Basel, Switzerland.
