ESOC 2024 | Stroke prevention in atrial fibrillation: incorporating new approaches into clinical practice

Jaime Masjuan, MD, PhD, from The Hospital Universitario Ramón y Cajal, Madrid, Spain, shares his thoughts on the integration of left atrial appendage occlusion and carotid filter devices into current treatment algorithms for stroke prevention in patients with atrial fibrillation. In patients who cannot receive anticoagulant drugs or have suffered breakthrough strokes, newer strategies are needed to prevent recurrent stroke. Dr Masjuan believes these mechanical strategies will be an important additional approach in a variety of clinical scenarios. This interview took place at the 10th European Stroke Organisation Conference (ESOC) 2024 in Basel, Switzerland.
