AAN 2024 | The occurrence of refractory migraine in pediatric patients

Scott Rosenthal • 16 Apr 2024

Scott Rosenthal, MD, University of Colorado School of Medicine and Children’s Hospital Colorado, Aurora, comments on the occurrence of refractory migraine in pediatric patients, highlighting the difficulty with knowing the exact rates of the condition due to pediatric migraine being a poorly studied field. Patients with refractory migraine have a higher rate of mood disorders, such as anxiety and depression, as a result of the disease. Dr Rosenthal highlights the lack of treatment options for pediatric patients with migraine, with many of them exhausting traditional therapies. This interview took place at the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) Annual Meeting 2024 in Denver, CO.
