MDS 2022 | Systems underlying music-induced paradoxical movement in Parkinson’s disease

Bin Hu, MD, PhD, Hotchkiss Brain Institute, University of Calgary, Calgary, Canada, talks on neurobiological circuits and systems underlying music-induced paradoxical movement in Parkinson’s disease. Auditory stimulation activates gait control circuitry almost with identical architecture. Stimulating particular circuitries with music may transfer the activation to the forward movement circuitry. Therefore, tools such as Abulosono, a music-based biofeedback program that uses music to help re-train the brains of patients with Parkinson’s disease, can help make walking a much more manageable task for patients. This interview took place at the 2022 International Congress of Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders in Madrid, Spain.
