AD/PD 2022 | The role of phosphoinositides in Parkinson’s disease pathology

Ronit Sharon, PhD, The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Jerusalem, Israel, discusses how phosphoinositides, generally more associated with cancer, are now associated with Parkinson’s disease pathology. Heavily associated with cell biology and cell death, phosphoinositides are involved in autophagy, lysosome to endosome trafficking, and synaptic vesicle cycling. Prof. Sharon is investigating what enzymes and metabolic signaling mechanisms are involved in the shift in the balance of phosphoinositides in neuron cells, which causes pathology. This interview took place at the AD/PD™ 2022 International Conference on Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s Diseases hosted in Barcelona, Spain.
