Esther Cubo, MD, PhD, Hospital General Yague, Burgos, Spain, explains a telemedicine approach currently being tested with Parkinson’s disease (PD) patients. Approximately 40% to 70% of PD patients fall each year. These fall events directly impact patient’s quality of life and may affect their mobility. This multidisciplinary telemedicine approach aims to prevent falls in PD patients. The study evaluated 76 non-demented patients with PD that were divided into two groups, one conducting telemedicine videoconference visits with a neurologist, nurses, psychologists, and occupational therapists in addition to the standard medical care and the other group receiving only the standard medical care. Dr Cubo explains the parameters evaluated in the study, including the use of wearable sensors, artificial intelligence, and cost-effectiveness questionnaires. This interview took place during the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) 2021 Annual Meeting.
