Sleep Europe 2026 | 24-hour heart rate as a biomarker of hyperarousal in insomnia: a real-world daridorexant study

Alessandro Colitta, MD, University of Pisa, Pisa, Italy, discusses a real-world exploratory study investigating whether 24-hour heart rate oscillations could be a reliable biomarker of self-reported hyperarousal in patients with chronic insomnia, using daridorexant as a proof of concept. Dr Colitta explains that hyperarousal modulated the amplitude and phase of 24-hour heart rate oscillations, as did daridorexant. Although the sample size was limited, patients with higher pre-sleep arousal appeared most likely to benefit from treatment. This interview took place at Sleep Europe 2026 in Maastricht, the Netherlands.
